Abstract

Social work intervention with sex workers requires expert input. Intervention will only be successful if the social worker is familiar with the facts and subculture of sex work. The sex worker will also only be willing to respond to a social worker if she experiences acceptance and feels that the social worker is not trying to influence her choice of career. Research indicates that intervention has to focus on the enhancement of living conditions and the quality of life of a sex worker, rather than on rehabilitation.
