Abstract

I have a dream ...
Politicians , economists, businessmen, philosophers, clergymen, social workers and ordinary men and women may or may not have dreams that relate to the changes that are now taking place in the world and in South Africa.

Some people dream of the future in terms of the past. They are the ones with an ostrich mentality - with their heads in the sand they try to keep the past alive or even try to recreate the past. Especially politicians on the extreme left and right of the political spectrum live in this dream world, because for them being poor is a way of life and one must be either for or against it as any change in the system will shatter their dreams.

Unfortunately South Africa also has leaders and politicians who are afflicted with a recurring and soothing dream that "someone else" is responsible for the social problems, such as crime, violence, HIV/ Aids, poverty, etc. in the country. Decisive action and creative solutions are therefore often delayed by time- consuming rhetoric statements, conferences and fact-finding exercises.
